Loraine Arnold, 86, of League City and formerly of Cameron died Wednesday, July
2, in a Nassau Bay hospital. Services 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell
Chapel. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Arnold, a retired beautician, was born
July 12, 1916 in Benonine,Texas to Edgar and Pearl (Wilson) Clore. She was a
member of the First Christian Church in Cameron and the Christian Women's Fellowship.
Her husband, Cecil Arnold preceded her in death as did one sister and one brother.
Survivors include: son, Cecil Edward Arnold of Houston, brother Harold Clore of Houston, and
grandson, Christopher Arnold.

Bitner, William (Billy)
William (Billy) Bitner, 38 of Cameron died Saturday, May 3, 2003 in a Cameron
hospital. Services 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial
Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Bitner, owner and operator of Bill Bitner Capentry and
Custom Cabinets, was born December 31, 1964 in Salina, Kansas to William and Anna
June (Martinez) Bitner. He was a member of Marlow Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Tricia Bitner of Cameron; mother, June Collins of Colorado;
his son Kenny Schneebeli of Palacios; his brother, Eugene Bitner of Colorado; his sister
Anita Locklin of Thorndale; step-grandfater, Danny Bianko of Grand Junction,
Colorado; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nell and Walter Odstrcil of Cameron and
surrogate sons, Ben and Kirby Taylor of Belton. Memorials may be made to the
Marlow Baptist Church.

Richard Erle Burke, 72, of Cameron died Sunday, March 23 in a Temple hospital.
Services 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill
Cemetery. Mr. Burke, a retired computer supervisor for Santa Fe Railroad, was
born August 3, 1930 in Cameron to Erle Curtis and Marguerite Cooley Burke. He
married Barbara Evers on December 22, 1956. Mr. Burke was a U. S. Marine Corps
veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist
Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Burke of Cameron and his daughter,
Jan Stevens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Judith Caldwell, 66 of Elkhart and formerly of Cameron, died Monday, June 2,
in a Crockett hospital. Services 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral
Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Ms. Caldwell, a bookkeeper, was born January 4,
1937 in Cameron to John and Alma Josephine (Fricke) Bryan. A brother, Billy Bryan
preceded her in death.
Survivors include: 2 daughters, Valarie Broadway of Palestine
and Melanie Parker of Grapeland, Her mother Alma Bryan of Cameron, 2 Brothers, Doug
Bryan of Cameron and Ronald Bryan of Temple, 4 grandchildren and 4 Great grandchildren.
Callaway, Bonnelle Neinast
Bonnelle Neinast Callaway, 90 of Cameron died Sunday April 13 at her home. Service
10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Callaway was born September 27, 1916 in Cameron to Jim and Ada Mae (Stone)
Neinast. She was Salutatorian for C.H. Yoe Class of 1930 and she married J.L.
Callaway. He preceded her in death in 2002.
She is survived by daughter, Jane Callaway of Cameron.
Carraway, Daniel William
Daniel William Carraway, 80, of Temple and formerly of Santa Fe, died Thursday,
February 13, 2003 in a Temple hospital. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 15th
at Grace Memorial Park in Santa Fe.
Mr. Carraway, a retired electrician, was bor March 19, 1922 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to William
Richard and Alice Bertha Hearon Carraway. He was a retired Coast Guard veteran of W.W. II and the
Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Yockanookany Baptist Church and a member of the LaMarque
Masonic Lodge AF & AM.
He was preceded in death by 2 wives; Florence of 38 years and Eva Georgia of 18 years.
He is survived by:1 son Bill Carraway and wife Jan of Texas City; 2 daughters, Denise Barberis and
husband Franco of Pearland and Nancy Bowen and husband Bill of Cameron; 2 sisters, Margaret
Giles of Sarepta, La. and Ruth DeLoach of Laurel, Ms., 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and
3 great great grandchildren.

James Edward Cook, 58 of Cameron died Saturday, April 5, at his home. Services
Tuesday 2:00 pm at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cook, self employed mechanic was born October 19, 1944 in Cameron to Edward
Norman and Lottie (Young) Cook. He was a member of Battetown Baptist Church. He is
survived by:Sister, Sharon Balch; 2 nieces Rebekka Balch and Johanna Balch and
by 1 great nephew, Wesley James Balch.
Coker, Grady Willis
Grady Willis Coker, 77, of Cameron, died Friday, May 30 at his residence. Services
5:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Coker, a retired Alcoa instrument technician, rancher and business owner, was
born November 19, 1925 to Ellis and Alice Skaggs Coker in Hunt County. He served in the
69th infantry of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a life member of The American
Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Amy Schlemmer July 21, 1997.
Survivors include: wife, Amy Coker of Cameron, 3 sons, Ed Coker of Friendswood,
Danny Coker of Hewitt, Randy Coker of Temple, 1 daughter, Debby Garrett of Morgan's
Point, 2 Step-daughters, Rosiland Graham of Houston, Susan Duff of Houston and
11 grandchildren.

Pastor Damion Corona, 52, of Cameron died Friday, April 4, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial Hernandez Cemetery.
Prayer service 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Corona, pastor of
Templo Alabanza, was born in Cameron, January 3, 1951 to Francisco and Florence
Trevino Corona. He married Rita Ann Espitia. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam
conflict, a rancher and had also worked with the Santa Fe Railroad and St.
Edward's Hospital.
He is survived by:his wife, Rita Corona of Cameron; three sons
Jesse D. Corona of Cameron, Kenneth Corona of Temple and Damion Corona, Jr. of Cameron;
daugther, Inda Elting of Cameron; his mother, Florence Corona of Cameron; two brothers,

Vivian Rae Davis, 86, of Temple died Thursday, March 27, in a Temple nursing home.

Mrs. Davis, retired owner/operator of Vivian's Lounge, was born September 23, 1916
in Milam County to William and Ella (Chevalier) Sammon.
She is survived by:Daughter, Virginia Sanders of Temple; grandson, Gary Bruce Couch;
Great grandchildren, Trisha Couch, Gary Couch, Jr. and Shane Couch.

Patsy Edmonds, 74 of Cameron died Wednesday, July 2 in a Cameron Nursing home.
Services 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs.
Edmonds was born August 5, 1928 to Roy and Jewel Stanley Skeen in Cooper. She
graduated East Texas State University before receiving her masters from Texas A & M
University. She retired from the Cameron ISD after 30 years of service. Mrs.
Edmonds was a member of the First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her
husband, Albert in 1999.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen Zielinski and fiance,
Dennis Daly of Cameron. Sisters, Betty Thompson of Cooper, Thalia McCarter of Paris
and Thelia Jones of Paris and one grandchild.

Jacqueline Fay (Jackie) Farmer, 65 of San Antonio, died Thursday, April 24 in a
San Antonio hospital. Service 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Marek-Burns-Laywell
Funeral Home. Burial St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary 1:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to
funeral. Miss Farmer was born June 6, 1937 in Wisconsin to Leroy Elsworth and
Josephine Gertrude Farmer.
Survivors include her surrogate mother, Rosalie Jenkins of San Antonio.
Fuchs, Johnnie P.
Johnnie P. Fuchs, 96, of Buckholts, died Friday, May 16, in a Temple nursing
facility. Funeral services 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Hope Lutheran Church. Burial in
Hope Lutheran Memorial Park. Mr. Fuchs, owner and operator of Fuchs Cash Grocery
and Feed Store, from 1933 until 1963, was born Aprial 24, 1907 in Buckholts to
Herman and Dora (Jungmann) Fuchs. He married Addeline Dorothy Geistmann and was
a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Five brothers; Walter Fuchs, Henry Fuchs, Herman
Fuchs, Leo Fuchs, Theo Fuchs and two sisters; Frieda Dinker and Dora Glaser preceded
him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Addeline Fuchs, his daughter Jeannette
Glaser, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Fuchs, Lorine Mary Schiller
Lorine Mary Schiller Fuchs, 90, of Buckholts died Tuesday, June 10 in a Temple
nursing home. Services 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts.
Burial in Hope Lutheran Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fuchs, a homemaker, was born November 23, 1913 in Burlington to Jerry B.
Schiller and Mary Machat. She married Harold Fuchs on December 12, 1935 and he
preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. A brother, Jerry Schiller also preceded her in
death in 2002.
Survivors include 2 sons, Barton Fuchs of Hurst and Carroll Fuchs
of Jarrell, one sister LaVerne Vanicik of Belton and grandson Brian Fuchs. Memorials
may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts.

Crystal Garza, 18, of Cameron, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, due to injuries sustained
in an automobile/pedestrian accident near Pettibone in Milam County. Services

10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hernandez Cemetery. Miss Garza, a senior at C. H. Yoe
High School, was born March 15, 1985 in Dallas to Jesus Guadalupe Garza and
Maria De La Luz Velez.
She is survived by:father, Jesus Garza of Cameron; mother
Maria Garza of Cameron; grandparents, Andrea Munoz, Herodita Garza and Jesus Garza
all of Nuevo Laredo; brothers, Jesse Garza, Edward Garza and Aaron Garza all of
Cameron; sisters, Zulema Castillo of Temple, Rocio Orozco, Andrea Garza, Esmeralda
Garza and Elizabeth Garza all of Cameron.
Glaser, Hilda
Hilda Glaser, 85, of Buckholts, died Friday, February 14, 2003 in a Temple nursing home.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 18th, at the Corinth
Cemetery near Buckholts. A memorial service was held immediately following
at Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts with Rev. Gary Kleypas officiating.
Mrs. Glaser, a homemaker, was born July 11, 1917 to Joseph and Louise Batla Marek
in Bell County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Glaser on December
28, 2000.
She is survived by 2 sons: Stanley Glaser and Richard Glaser, both of
Buckholts; 1 brother, Ervin Marek of the Meeks Community; 1 sister, Louise Glaser
of Buckholts; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Gootee, Martha Elizabeth
Martha Eizabeth Gootee, 81, of Cameron died Tuesday, March 18 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
Entombment will be at the St. Monica's Mausoleum. Visitation will be Thursday
from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Gootee, a homemaker, was born October 19,
1921 in Albany, Georgia to Clyde Tilghman and Belle Kirksey. She married Glenn
Gootee on July 27, 1942. Mrs. Gootee was a member of the First United Methodist
Church where she served with the United Methodist Women and as acolyte coordinator
for many years. She also served as Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator in Cameron
for many years.
She is survived by: her husband, Glenn Gootee of Cameron;her sons
Bruce Gootee of Bossier City, Louisiana, William Ervin Gootee of Gonzales;her
daughters, Joyce Montgomery of Plano and Sandra Brents of Spring and 6 grandchildren.
Green, Lillie
Lillie Green, 91 of Cameron died Saturday, June 07, 2003 in a Cameron hospital.
Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in
Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Green was born in Milam County on October 20, 1911 to
Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Pfarrdrescher. She and her husband, Henry Green, were owners/
operators of Green's Grocery on West Main for over 50 years, which she ran after
his death in 1953. A brother, Richard Pfarrdrescher and two sisters, Annie
Riemer and Tillie Simmons also preceded her in death. She was a catholic.

Jo Webb Greger, 71 of Lott died Friday, February 7, 2003 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home
in Cameron with burial in the Hope Lutheran Memorial Park.
Ms. Greger, a retired quality control inspector for Marathon Batteries
in Waco, was born September 28, 1931 in Globe, Arizona to Ira Hines and Doris
Runnels Webb.
She is survived by 5 sons; Michael Gregor of Westphalia, Nick Gregor of Lott,
Richard Greger of Rosebud, Dale Greger of Lott, Tony Greger of Temple; 6 daughters;
Linda Raley of Grapevine, Ann Wilde of Westphalia, Donna Renaud of Houston, Denise Larson
of Lewisville, Peggy Eckman of Rockdale, and Jeanne Wallace of Waco; 1 brother, Clarence Webb
of Kansas; 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Victor Walter (VW) Hauk, 70 of Cameron died Monday, March 24 at his home. Services
2:00 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial in the Clarkson
Cemetery in the Clarkson Community. Mr. Hauk, rancher and retired Milam County
Commissioner, was born to Joe and Vera Garrett Hauk. He married Anita Ocker on
April 23, 1954. He was an U. S. Army Veteran and a member of SPJST. Two brothers,
Jimmy Hauk and Paul Hauk preceded him in death.
Mr. Hauk is survived by: his wife, Anita Hauk of Cameron;two sons, Larry Hauk of

David M. Hernandez, 85 of Fort Worth and formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, April
15, at his residence. Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell
Funeral Home. Burial Hernandez Cemetery. Prayer service 6:00 p.m.Thursday at
funeral home. Mr. Hernandez, a retire farm laborer, was born March 1, 1918 in
Ben Arnold to Valentine and Suzanna (Madril) Hernandez.
He is survived by one
brother, Bernando Hernandez of Fort Worth, by two beloved nieces, Anita De La Rosa
of Cameron and Janie Cepeda of Fort Worth and by several other nieces and nephews.
Hughes, Pat
Pat Hughes, 74 of Rockdale, died Saturday, July 29, in a Temple hospital. Services
1:00 p.m. Monday, July 7 at the Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum in Oakland,
California. Local memorial services will be held at a later date. Mr. Hughes,
a beauty/barber supply salesman was born May 7, 1929 in Menard, Texas to Autie
and Fern (Luckett) Hughes. He was a navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He
married Marian McCallum on July 24, 1954. A daughter, Patrice Hughes, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include: his wife, Marian Hughes of Rockdale, 3 sons,
Michael Hughes of Cameron, Mark Hughes of California, Todd Hughes of Georgetown,
daughter, Christina Hughes of California, brother, Jim Hughes of Moody, sister,

Edward B. Jedlicka, 87 of LaPorte and formerly of Milam County, died Thursday,
June 19 in a Clear Lake Hospital. Services Monday 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral
home. Mr. Jedlicka, a steel worker, was born June 11, 1916 in Milam County to
John H. and Mary Anna (Luskac) Jedlicka. He was an army veteran of W.W. II. A
daughter, Edna Pauline Gabriel preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his son
Charles Jedlicka of LaPorte, two daughters, Linda Carlton of LaPorte and Mary Ann
Gabriel of Magnolia, sister Albina Greenlees of Austin, 12 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren.
Jistel, Gloria Jean
Gloria Jean Jistel, 58 of Whitehouse and formerly of Cameron died Friday, May 23
in a Dallas hospital following a lengthy illness. Services 11:00 a.m. Monday at
Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jistel was
born January 3, 1945. She was raised in Cameron. She married Clarence Jiste
September 21, 1961. She had worked in the Sears personnel department from which
she retired after 27 years. She was a member of Walter Fair Methodist Church.
Her brother, Tommy Layne preceded her in death.
Survivors include, her husband, Clarence Jistel of Whitehouse, Son, Michael Jistel
of Rockwall, Daughter, Jayla Allen of Richmond, parents Jewell & Chester Hays of
Cameron, Tom Layne of Chilton, brothers, Buddy Hays, Lester Hays, and Sheldon Hays
all of Cameron, sister, Ina Lenz of Bryan and 6 grandchildren.
Jungmann, Martha
Martha Jungmann, 87, of Buckholts, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in a Cameron
hospital. Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church in
Buckholts with Rev. Gary Kleypas officiating. Burial Hope Lutheran Memorial Park.
Mrs. Jungmann, a homemaker, was born April 30, 1916 in Milam County to Frank and
Anna Zander Galler. She married Robert Jungmann on June 20, 1934. He preceded
her in death in 1981. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where she
performed cutodial duties for many years. She served in the Milam County 4-H and
home demonstration for many years. Two brothers, Alfred Galler and Fritz Galler
also preceded her in death.
Survivors include 4 sons, Carroll Jungmann of Allen,
Benard Jungmann of Spicewood, Arvell Jungmann of Buckholts and Larry Jungmann; 1
brother, Weldon Galler of Waco;2 sisters, Ruby Jansky of Austin and Lorene Glaser
of Temple, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Kohutek, Edwin Lee
Edwin Lee Kohutek, 83 of Cameron died Tuesday, March 18, at his residence. Funeral services
3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Marlow cemetery.
Mr. Kohutek was born September 12, 1919 in Crosby to John Ruzicka and Rosie Kohutek.
He was the owner operator of the Buckhorn Bar and had worked also for Style Home
Furniture and Charolett Pipe. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in
Ben Arnold. Mr. Kohutek was an Army Veteran of W.W. II. He was a member of the American
Legion Post #9 in Cameron, the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department and S.P.J.S.T.
Two half-brothers, Joe Ruzicka and Amil Kohutek preceded him in death.
He is survived by: his wife, Fay Kohutek of Cameorn;two sons, Edwin Kohutek, Jr. and
his wife Crystal of Houston, Jimmy Kohutek and his wife Sheri of Cameron; two
daughters, Kathryn Nachlinger and her husband James of Bryan, Debbie Williams and
her husband Scott of New Braunfels, and 11 grandchildren.
Kral, Joe John
Joe Johnny Kral, 72 of Buckholts died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at his residence
Graveside services were held Friday, February 14, 2003 at St. Monica's Cemetery
in Cameron with Deacon Juan Garza officiating.
Mr. Kral, a self-employed mechanic was born October 12, 1930 in Milam County to Joe
and Sophie Kubish Kral. He is survived by several cousins.
Kubecka, Christine
Christine Kubecka, 92 of Cameron died Monday, June 2, in a Cameron hospital. Services 10:00 a.m.
Thursday St. Monica's Catholic Church. Burial St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary
6:00 p.m. Wednesday at funeral home.
Miss Kubecka was born November 1, 1910 in Cameron to Dominic and Christine
(Parma) Kubecka. She had worked as a Western Union operator early in her career;
she then worked in the Milam County Clerks office, for NASA and Fannie Mae.
She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her brother Dennis Kubecka of Cameron and sister Dorothea
Helmke of San Antonio.

Nina Marie Logan, 85 of Cameron died Thursday, June 5, in a Cameron nursing center.
Graveside services, 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Logan, a
homemaker, was born August 8, 1917 in Bell County to Wes and Nellie (Whitley)
Lindsey. She married Jack Logan and was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Cameron. Her husband and a son, Alton Logan preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her sister, LaVerne Riley of Cameron, 3 Granddaughters, Donna Trubee of
Leander, Karen Cryer of Cameron, Lorri Boyett of Cameron, 5 great grandchildren
and 1 great great grandchild.
Looney, John A. (Tarta)
John A. (Tarta) Looney, 78 of Cameron died Sunday, May 18 in a Temple hospital due to
injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Looney, a retired rancher
and farmer and life long resident of Milam County was born January 25, 1925 in
Milam County to Will and Mayme (Steger) Looney. He married Bobbye Jean Groppell
in 1948. He was a member of the Cameron Horse Club. A daughter, Marcey Jean Looney
preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Bobbye Looney of Cameron,
son, Mark Looney of Houston, 2 daughters, Sharon Ann Jackson of Austin and
Mary Keith Story of Cameron, sister, Beth Smithwick of Richardson, grandson, Matt
Story of Cameron.

Renee Katherine Marek, 49, of Tallahassee, Florida and formerly of the Yarrellton
Community in Milam County, died February 11, 2003 in Tallahassee. Services 3:00 p.m.

Mayer, Candace Michelle
Candace Michelle Mayer, 22, of Round Rock and formerly of Cameron died Wednesday,
April 23, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Taylor. Services
Monday, April 28, 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica's Catholic Church. Burial St. Monica's
Cemetery. Rosary 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Miss Mayer,
a receptionist for Leif Johnson Collision Center in Round Rock, was born November
26, 1980 in Temple. She was a graduate of C. H. Yoe High School and a member of
St. Monica's Catholic Church.

McCullin, Vivian Lucas
Vivian Lucas McCullin, 93, of Cameron died Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at the home
of her son. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the First
United Methodist Church in Cameron. Burial will
follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday from 7:00 p.m.
until 9:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCullin was born January 24, 1910 at Minerva, Texas to Grover Cleveland and
Mary Belle (Gibbs) Lucas. She attended grammar school in Minerva, graduated from
Rockdale High School and received her teaching certificate from Mary Hardin Baylor
University. She taught school for one year in Carmine, Texas. She married A. W.
McCullin, Sr. in Minerva on September 21, 1930. A.W. and Vivian founded Mack's
Oil Company in 1931. Vivian was very active all her life in the business and
continued operating the business at the death of A. W.
She was a life long Methodist and joined the First United Methodist Church in
Cameron in 1939, where she served in numerous capacities. Vivian was a member
of the History Club, served for many years as a member of the Cameron Hospital
Auxiliary, the United Methodist Women, as a Sunday School teacher and a Cub Scout
Den Mother. In addition to her husband, one son, Grover C. McCullin, two brothers,
Hugh Lucas and Clayton Lucas and two sisters, Mildred Lucas House and Gladys Lucas Cundiff,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Albert McCullin, Jr. and his
wife Doris of Cameron, one sister, Margaret Lucas Francis of Troy, Ohio, four
grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
McIntosh, Henriem
Henriem McIntosh, 87, of Cameorn died Sunday, July 6, in a Cameron hospital. Services
10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McIntosh
was born December 4, 1915 in Cameron to Henry Martin and Nell (Hunt) Hefley. She
received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from University of Texas after also
spending 2 years at Southwestern University in Georgetown. She received her Masters
in English from Texas A & M. She married William McIntosh and was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Cameron. Mrs. McIntosh taught school at
Southwestern University and in the Cameron and Milano school districts. She also
assisted her husband in the family clothing store. A son William McIntosh, Jr.
preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband William (Bill) McIntosh of
Cameron, a nephew, Henry F. McIntosh of El Paso, and a niece, Katherine Sawina of
Houston.
Mayes, Nell
Nell Mayes, 97, of Hearne and formerly of Cameron, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003
in a Bryan hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at
Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
Burial will follow in the Little River Cemetery near Maysfield.
Miss Mayes, was born January 10, 1906 in Maysfield to R. B. Mayes, Jr.
and Kittie Belle Newton. She was a graduate of C. H. Yoe High School in 1923.
She graduated from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood with a Bachelor of Science
in Education in 1939. She attained her Master of Education in 1953 from the
University of Houston. She also had attended Sul Ross State University,
Southwest Texas State University, Texas A & M University, Texas Technological
Universitay and Mary Hardin Baylor. Miss Mayes was a member of the Texas State
Teacher's Association, Life Member of Texas Retired Teachers Association,
University of Houston Federation of Alumni and the First Presbyterian Church of
Cameron. She taught school for 44 years, all but one year, in Milam County.
She taught first grade in Cameron for 20 years. She was a decendant of
Thomas Mayes Newton and James Knox Polk Newton, namesakes of Maysfield community.
Survivors include her sister, Kitty Barry of Arlington and numerous nieces
and nephews. Family visitation will be held Friday 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mullens, John A.
John A. Mullens, 81, of Cameron, died Monday, March 17, in a Rockdale hospital.
Funeral services, 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial
in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Mullens
was born January 26, 1922 in Gomez, Texas to John Noah Mullens and Mettie Emma
Robinson. He was an army veteran of W.W. II. He married Dorothy Hibbitt on
November 5, 1952. Mr. Mullens retired after 30 years from the Texas Highway
Department. He was a life member of the 36th Infantry Division and the American
Legion Post #9 of Cameron. He was a member of the New Beginnings Gospel
Tabernacle. Three sisters, Emma May Mullens, Thelma Wilson, Kate Hewitt and a
brother, Burel Mullens preceded him in death.
He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy
Mullens of Cameron;his daughter, Debbie Mullens of Cameron;three brothers, Rod
Mullens of Dallas, Troy Mullens of Keyer, Oregon and Nathan Mullens of Bangs.

Steve Nemec, 65 of Cameron, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at his home. Services 11:00 a.m.
Thursday at St. Monica Catholic Church. Burial St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary
7:30 p.m. Wednesday July 9 at the funeral home. Mr. Nemec was born August 4, 1937
in Corpus Christi to Steve Thomas and Mary (Zdansky) Nemec. He served as a police
officer for the city of Cameron for more than 25 years before retiring. He was a
member of St. Monica's Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Iris Nemec of Cameron,
sons: Patrick Savage of Alvin, Steve Wayne Nemec of San Antonio, Glenn

Pernice, John A.
John A. Pernice, 83, of Cameron died Monday, March 3, at his home. Memorial
services will be held at a later date. Mr. Pernice was born August 27, 1919 in
Sicily, to Vincent and Maria Graziano Pernice. He served in the Army tank and
infantry divisions during World War II. After the service, He worked as a route
salesman for Coca-Cola for more than 27 years. He was a member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 2010 of Cameron where he served as Bingo chairman for over
20 years. Mr. Pernice was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Jodie Pernice of Cameron;his son, James Pernice of Wichita,KS;
his daughter, Kay Raymond of Cameron;5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Margaret (Maggie) Elva Richards, 87, of Montgomery and formerly of Milam County,
died Sunday, May 25 in a Woodlands hospital. Services 11:00 a.m. Thursday at
Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial North Elm Cemetery. Mrs. Richards, a
retired nursing home administrator, was born July 26, 1915 in Milam County. Her
husband, Johnnie Richards preceded her in death.

Mildred (Molly) Richter, 84, of Cameron died Saturday, March 8, in a Cameron hospital.
Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
Entombment St. Monica's Mausoleum. Mrs. Richter was born March 2, 1919 in Ben
Arnold to Fredrick Paul Folschinsky and Mary Ohlenbusch. She married Frank Richter
in 1946. Mrs. Richter worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for
more thank 35 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Ben Arnold
where she served as organist and as a member of the Ladies Guild. She was a
member of the Porcelain Art Club in Cameron. A sister, Mable Becker and two
brothers, Lee Roy Folschinsky and Fred Paul (Pie) Folschinsky preceded her in
death.
She is survived by: her husband, Frank Richter of Cameron;two sisters,
Florine Olbrich of Missouri and Mary Lou Click of San Antonio.
Rocha, Jose Angel, Sr.
Jose Angel Rocha, Sr. 76, Hearne, died Friday May 23, in an Austin hospital.
Services 3:00 p.m. Monday at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Cameron. Burial
Hernandez Cemetery. Mr. Rocha, a farm worker, was born October 1, 1926 to Prospero
and Juanita Granado Rocha in Normangee, Texas. His wife, Isabel preceded him in
death in 2002.
Survivors include, his son, Joe Rocha, Jr.of Hearne, 5 daughters, Elvira
Perez of Hearne, Mary Jane Vega of Hearne, Teresa Marquez of Cedar Creek, Martha Rocha

Schlemmer, Charles Norman (Pete)
Charles Norman (Pete) Schlemmer, 67, of Temple and formerly of Cameron died Friday,
March 7, 2003 in a Temple nursing home. Services Sunday, March 9, 2003 at 3:00 p.m.
at Ben Arnold Cemetery. Mr. Schlemmer, a truckdriver and carpenter, was born
October 13, 1935 in Milam County to Ernest August and Anna Jedlicka Schlemmer. He
served in the U.S. Navey. A son Kelly Schlemmer preceded him in death in 1980 as
did a brother, Mike Schlemmer in 1999.

Schoppe, Alfonse
(Cameron) Alfonse Lloyd Schoppe, 80 of Cameron, died Sunday, January 26th, 2003 in a
Temple nusring facility. Funeral services were be held January 28th at St. Monica's Catholic
Church with burial in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Frenstat in Burleson County.
Mr. Schoppe was born in Birch and was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in Italy and
in North Africa as a cook with the rank of staff sergeant.
Survivors include:5 sons; Jerome of Cyclone, Michael of Cameron, Al of Temple,
Robert of Marak, and George of Gatesville; 2 daughters: Katherine "Kathy" Schoppe of Temple,
and Bernadette Jochec of Cameron; 1 brother, Julius Schoppe of Texas City; 2 sisters, Alice Wisniewski
and Gloria Kubeczka both of Brenham; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

Larry Glenn Shoaf, 46, of Baytown, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at
the First Baptist Church in Liberty, Texas, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Mr. Shoaf was born October 22, 1956 in Baytown to Walter and Dorothy Shoaf.
He is survived by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Shoaf of Liberty; his sister, Carolyn Panebianco;
his paternal grandmother, Sudie Tucker Cass; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Margaret A. (Margo) Shuffield, 71, of Cameron died Friday, March 7, 2003 in a
Temple hospital. No services are scheduled. Mrs. Shuffield, a retired secretary
for Royal Seating in Cameron, was born April 7, 1931 in Chriesman to William
Charles and Margaret Ann Vincent Geick. She was preceded in death by her husband
Milton Darrell Shuffield, Sr. and by a sister, Mary Annie Hammer.

Owen F. (Judge) Stidham, Jr. 55 of Cameron died Thursday, May 22 at his residence.
Graveside services 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Stidham, a retired
ironworker, was born October 2, 1947 in Cameron to Owen F and Hazel (Richards)
Stidham. He and his wife Beverly were the founders of Faith in Christ Prison
ministries. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
Survivors include, his wife Beverly of Cameron, sons, John Paul Stidham of

Joe John Stoklas, Jr., 83, of Cameron died Saturday, March 15, 2003, in a Cameron

Home. Mr. Stoklas, a retired farmer and rancher, was born September 18, 1919 in
Cameron to Joe J. and Stefanie Bauer Stoklas. He was a member of St. Monica's
Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Stoklas of Cameron and several nephews and nieces.

Susan Ann Stoklas, 51 of Temple died Tuesday, March 18 in a Temple hospital.

Friday 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Stoklas, a homemaker, was born May 23,

Ruby Swanzy, 80 of Cameron, died Monday, March 3, in a Temple hospital. Funeral

Gary Maroney and Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben
Arnold Cemetery in Ben Arnold. Mrs. Swanzy, a homemaker, was born August 17,1922
in Milam County to William M. and Bessie Clara Price Sweet. She had worked as a
cook in the Cameron ISD and form Milam county for many years. She had also served as
election judge for Milam County for many years. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Cameron. A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include:her husband, A. T. (Sonny) Swanzy of Cameron;her son, Donnie
Swanzy of Angleton;2 daughters, Sharon Marek of Meeks Community, Joy Schneider

Wheeler, R. L., Jr.
R. L. Wheeler, Jr. 67, of Holland, Texas died Sunday May 18 at his home. Services
10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Academy. Burial Val Verde
Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
Mr. Wheeler was born November 17, 1935 to Robert Leroy and Mildred Baskin Wheeler
in Three Rivers. He was a graduate of C. H. Yoe High School in Cameron in 1955.
He served in the U. S. Air Force and was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Academy. He was a shipping coordinator of Wilson Art for 27 years. He married
Becky Mason June 10, 1961 in Academy.
Survivors include his wife: Becky Wheeler of Holland, daughter, Luanna Bennight of
Academy, two sons, Kevin Wheeler of Holland and Shawn Wheeler of Sturgis, S.D., two
sisters, Rita Buff of Mathis,and Modene Fincher of Cameron and one brother James C.
Wheeler of Milano and 5 Grandchildren.

Imogene "Jean" Williams, 79, of Rockdale died Sunday, February 16, in Houston. Funeral
services were held Wednesday, February 19, 2003 Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with
burial in the Little River Cemetery.
She was born January 19, 1924 in Maysfield to Elbert and Kathleen Hollingsworth.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 51 years, Garland
Williams.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Billy
Wedemeyer of Houston; one niece and her husband, Lisa and Jimmie Wilson of LaPorte, two
great nephews, Byars and Brooks Wilson and one great niece, Baylee Wilson of LaPorte; one
stepdaughter and her husband, Shirley and Jim Tooke, of Aurora, Colorado; one stepson,
Duane Williams, of Rockdale.
Whittington, Riley Hunt, Jr.
Riley Hunt Whittington, Jr. 73, of Brazoria and formerly of Milam
County, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at his residence. Graveside
services were held Friday, February 7, at Marlow Cemetery near
Cameron.
Mr. Whittington, a retired heavy equipment operator, was born November
3, 1929 in the Port Sullivan community of Milam County to Riley H. and
Eva Bell Burkeen Whittington.
He married Bobbie Faye Black on August 25, 1949. Mr. Whittington was
preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Whittington of Brazoria; a daughter,
Betty Faye Fuhrman of Brazoria, 1 brother, Mose Whittington of Houston;
a sister, Myrlene Roberts of Waco; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
