Allison, Calvin Eugene
    Calvin Eugene Allison, 57, of Rogers died Saturday, January 19, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating. The body will be cremated. Family visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Allison was born June 11, 1950 in Cameron to Calvin and Pearl Lee (Vybiral) Allison.
    Survivors include: Son, Calvin Allison, Jr. of Temple; Daughter, Ashley Allison of Buckholts; Father, Calvin Allison of Rogers; Sisters, Lanell Wallace of Burnett, Judy Ulicnik of Buckholts Colleen Riley of Cameron, and Cindy Baker of Cameron; 1 grandchild , also survives.

Barker, Frances Nabours
    Frances Nabours Barker, 84, of Cameron died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty and Rev. Shelton Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the North Elm Cemetery near Yarrellton. Family visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mrs. Barker was born July 31, 1923 in Gause to Robert Homer and Riebe Willie (Fisher) Nabours. She had worked as a medical office assistant to Dr. Sidney Richardson in Cameron for many years. She had served as manager for the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, advisor for Hill Country, she was a member of the History Club, Yoe Foundation, Crime Stoppers and the Silver Haired Legislature. She married Col. Edward Barker on October 19, 1992.
    Survivors include: Husband, Col. Edward Barker, Sr. of Cameron; Son, Kin Griffin of Cameron; Daughters, Lynda Griffin Lewis of Cameron and Becky Griffin Hillman of Cameron; Brothers, Robert H. Nabours of Galveston, Kenneth Nabours of Iowa, and Paul Nabours of Cameron; Sisters, Trent Hellman of Virginia and Hortense Tumlinson of Cameron; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, also survive.
Beale, Billy
    Billy Beale, 79, of The Woodlands and formerly of Milam County died Friday in Houston. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion in Cameron with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating. Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mr. Beale, a retired motorhome salesman, was born July 25, 1928 in Milam County to John W. and Carrie L. (Finch) Beale. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Agnes Estelle Burts.

Beckhusen, Wilburn E.
    Wilburn E. Beckhusen, 83, of Buckholts died Friday, February 8, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at the Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts with Rev. Gary Kleypas officiating. Family visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mr. Beckhusen was born January 21, 1925 in Bryant Station, Texas to Garrett Beckhusen and Ludie Fischer Beckhusen. He graduated from Buckholts ISD in 1942. Mr. Beckhusen worked with his father in the farming business before branching out on his own. He bought Modern Gin in Buckholts in 1948.
    Mr. Beckhusen married Dorothy Lee Marchak on July 23, 1949, who preceeded him in death in 1982. On June 4, 1984, he married Venetia Hartley.
    Mr. Beckhusen served in various civic capacities including, the Buckholts Town Council, Director of Citizens National Bank from 1976 to 1997, Director of the Texas Independent Cotton Ginners Association, Director of the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Program, former President of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, as well as, founding member of the Buckholts Betterment Association, where he served as Secretary for many years.
    Mr. Beckhusen, also served in the Bell-Milam Land and Water Rights Association, as Director of St. Eduwards Hospital, Chairman of the Milam County Crops Committee. He was a member of the Milam-Williamson County Pest Management Committee, the Blackland Income Growth Committe, the Blackland Cotton and Grain Association and the FSA County Committee.
    He was the recipient of the 1992 Horace Hayden Memorial Trophy for outstanding achievements in Cotton Ginning for the State of Texas.
    He was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts where he served in many capacities. He operated Modern Gin from 1948 until the present. Mr. Beckhusen was preceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Beatrice, and a grandson, David Chenoweth.
    Survivors include: His wife, Venetia Beckhusen; 3 daughters, Judy Prater and husband, Jim, of Taylor, Becky Novajosky and husband, Joe, of Sugerland, and Jo Ann Culpepper and husband, Hill, of Cameron; 3 sons, Jay Beckhusen and wife, Jana, of Buckholts, Jeff Beckhusen and friend, Heather Twidt, of Houston, Douglas Beckhusen and wife, Tina, of Buckholts, 2 step-sons, James Hatley and wife, Linda, of Alcoa, TN and Tom Hartley of Dallas; Brother, Garrett H. Beckhusen of Temple; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, also survive.
Beale, Billy

Blake, Gene
    Gene F. Blake, 92, of Cameron and formerly of Ponca City, OK. died Thursday, January 17, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Norton officiating. Graveside services will be 4:00 p.m. at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne. Family visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Blake was born September 16, 1915 in Trinity to Fred G. and Alma (Kurtzmann) Blake. He graduated from Hearne High School and was a member of the class of 1938 at Texas A & M University. He married Lucylle Merchant, January 6, 1940. He was a major in the U. S. Army during W.W.I.I. He had worked as a Brakeman-conductor with Southern Pacific Railroad before going to work in the family business, Coca Cola Bottling Co. He was past president of Coca Cola Bottling Co in Cameron, LaGrange, Ponca City, Oklahoma and Columbus, Nebraska. He was Vice-president of All-Tex Realty. He served as Milam County Judge for 6 years. He was past president of Cameron Volunteer Fire Department, past president and member Cameron Rotary Club. He served 2 years on Cameron City Council and 4 years as mayor of Cameron. He was past president of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, past Master of San Andres Lodge A.F. & A.M., past District Deputy Grand Master 104th Masonic District, a member of Valley of Houston Scottish Rite, a member of Ben Hur Temple Shrine in Austin. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served as past chairman of the Board of Stewards. He was past President of Cameron Industrial Foundation, past chairman of Central Texas Council of Governments and Chairman of Cameron area Salvation Army. A son, Glenn F. Blake, and two brothers preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: His wife, Lucylle Blake of Cameron; Son, Kenneth Blake & wife Susan of Ponca City, Ok; Daughter, Mary Nieto & husband Santos (Sonny) of Casa Grande, Arizona; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, also survive.
Brady, Elise Horstmann
    Elise Horstmann Brady, 87, of Buckholts, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Charles Conklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts. Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mrs. Brady, a life long resident of Buckholts, was born May 18, 1920 in Buckholts to Elimar "Aly" and Estelle (Hobson) Horstmann. She was a graduate of C. H. Yoe High School. She married Leon Brady on December 10, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buckholts, a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas-Ben Milam Chapter, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Colonial Dames of America, the First Families of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her sister, Martha Jane Busby and brother Elimar "Buddy" Horstmann also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Son, Joe Michael Brady of Belton; Daughter, Janie Brady Brown-Casassa & husband Paul of Naples, Florida; Brother-in-law John Busby of New Braunfels; Sister-in-law, Betty Chenoweth of San Antonio; 2 granddaughters, Andrea Meer & husband Derrick of Orlando and Chritina Brady of Montgomery; 7 great grandchildren, also survive.

Cook,
    Leroy Cook, 73, of Blum and formerly of Vidor, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud.
    Mr. Cook was born December 19, 1934 in Fort Worth to Roy Earl and Lillie Gloria (Wideman) Cook. He retired from Mobil Chemical in Beaumont. His son Travis Wayne Cook and brother, David Cook preceded him in death.

Dakel, Linda Allen
    Lina Alleen Dakel, 81, of Richardson, Texas died Friday, March 21, 2008 at a hospital in Richardson. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, March 25 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron with Tim Temple officiating.
    Mrs. Dakel, a Beautician, was born in Buckholts, Texas on July 30, 1926 to William Henry and Irene H. (Fuchs) Lange. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Dakel in 1961.
    Survivors include: Son, Robert L. Dakel of Richardson; Daughter, Denise Gaboian of Richardson; Brothers, Floris Lange of Trinity and Ardell Lange of Temple; 4 Grandchildren, also survive.

East, Ralph
    Ralph E. East, 75 of Cameron died Friday, January 11, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Chaplain Michael Fortson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben Arnold Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. East, a retired millwright from Ford Motor Company, was born May 17, 1932 in Georgia to John Willis and Cecilia Odell (Turner) East. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Jennie Johnson October 27, 1955. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2010 in Cameron and the D.A.V. in Waco. His son, Alvin Lee East and 3 siblings preceded him in death.

    Edna Elizabeth "Betty" Fikes, 79 of Richmond, died Monday, April 14, 2008 in a Richmond hospital. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Rogers City Cemetery with Gene VanNoord officiating. Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mrs. Fikes, a retired day care owner, was born April 1, 1929 in Big Sandy, Texas to Minor and Jessie Lee (Welch) Marshall. Her husband Edward "Sonny" Fikes preceded her in death.

Fisher, Joe Morris
    Joe Fisher, 59, of Cameron died Tuesday, "January 1, 2008" at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Walkers Creek Cemetery near Cameron. Family visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Fisher was born December 31, 1948 in Cameron to Joe and Lois (Price) Fisher. He was a graduate of C. H. Yoe High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Edwin Hardy Post #9 American Legion in Cameron.
    Survivors include: Wife, Kay Fisher of Cameron; Step-son, Dale Walls of Taylor; Step-daughter, Valerie Johnson of Minerva; Brothers, Darrell Fisher of Hallsburg and Gordon Fisher of Salado; 7 grandchildren, also survive.
Folschinsky, Dorothy Ann
    Dorothy Ann Folschinsky, 83, of Ben Arnold, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Pavilion at Ben Arnold Cemetery with Rev. James Wheeless officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben Arnold Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mrs. Folschinsky, a homemaker, was born January 24, 1925 in the Sharp Community of Milam County to Luther and Minnie (Reichert) McDonald. She graduated from Sharp High School and married Fred (Pie) Folschinsky on November 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1999.
    Survivors include: Daughters, Paula Shores of Bastrop and Jill Diseker of Spicewood; Sister, Rayellen Middleton of Rockdale; 3 grandchildren, also survive.

Garcia, Elia
    Elia Garcia, 73, of Cameron died Thursday, January 31, 2008 in a Cameron nursing facility. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Her body will be cremated.
    Mrs. Garcia, a homemaker, was born February 27, 1934 in Crystal City to Ignacio and Severita (Garcia) Garcia. Her brother Ignacio Garcia preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Sons, Richard Garcia of Cameron and Rolando Garcia of Eagle Pass; Daughters Norma Martinez of Cameron, Adrianna Garcia of Washington, Yolanda Flowers of Cameron, and Edna Castellanos of Cameron; Brothers, Saul Garcia of Eagle Pass, Edmundo Garcia of Eagle Pass, Mauro Garcia of San Antonio, David Garcia of San Antonio, Jaime Garcia of San Antonio, and *Edmundo Garcia of San Antonio; Sisters, Alma Montemayor of Pearsall, Aida Sisneros of Eagle Pass and Angelina Garcia of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, also survive.

Harrrison, Thomas Mack
    Thomas Mack Harrison, 85, of Buckholts died Saturday, January 26, in a Cameron nursing center. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday Feb. 2nd at Hope Lutheran Memorial Church in Buckholts, with Rev. Gary Kleypas officiating.
    Mr. Harrison was born November 23, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Francis Harrison. He graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton Michigan with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. He married Ann Elizabeth Cowles after he returned from World War II where he was an officer stationed in the South Pacific with the Army Air Corps. In 1956, he joined the General Electric Company and the family moved from Michigan to upstate New York where he had a 23-year career with General Electric.
    During that time he published many technical books on improved methods for designing mechanical handling systems and manufacturing facilities. He designed the Crawler-Transporter for NASA that transports the space shuttles to the launching pad, as well as the Vehicle Assembly Building, where the shuttles are assembled.
    After his wife, Ann, passed away on December 22, 1987, he met Betty Crawford while the two were delivering Meals on Wheels in New York. In 1989 they moved From New York to Oklahoma City where the two were married. Another move took them to Buckholts, Texas in 2000 where the two lived until his death. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts.
    Survivors include: His wife, Betty Harrison of Buckholts; Son, Thomas Mack Harrison & wife Carolyn of Idaho Falls, IN; 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, also survive.
Henderson, Doyle
    Doyle L. Henerson, 64, of Rogers died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Rogers with Rev. Larry O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in the McLean Cemetery near Rogers. Family visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rogers.
    Mr. Henderson, a retired firefighter of the Temple Fire Department, was born March 9, 1943 in Temple to H. A. and Ila Dean (Warren) Henderson. He married Joyce Winkler. Mr. Henderson received the honor of Firefighter of the year in 1975 and was the recipient of the Ben Franklin Award for Firefighting in 1975. He was a member of the County Line Baptist Church where he served as deacon and chairmen of the deacons from 2000 thru 2006. A sister, Brooksie Trantham preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: His wife, Joyce Henderson of Rogers; Son, William Allen Henderson of Alvin; Daughters, Theresa (Tanky) Dodd of Rogers and Wendy Michelle King of Rogers; Brother, H. A. (Butch) Henderson of Rogers; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, also survive.
Hobson, Ollie
    Ollie Marie "Skip" Hobson, 63, of Cameron died Friday, January 4, 2008 at her home. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Marlow Cemetery near Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Family visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Hobson, the assistant Director of Nursing at Cameron Nursing Center, was born October 2, 1944 in Escambia County, Alabama to Everett Lamar and Helen Marie (Sheppard) Wilson. She married John Perry Hobson on February 25, 1992. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron and the Texas Association of Nurses. Survivors include: Her husband, John Perry Hobson of Cameron; Her son, Wayland Shaver of Baytown; Her daughters, Leah Shaver of Tomball, Jeanell Whiteley of Willis, and Ava Elaine Chamberlain of Rome, GA; Her mother, Helen Wilson of Cameron; Her brother, Stephen Lamar Wilson of Spring; 4 grandchildren, also survive.
Howard,
    Memorial services for Pantha "Pat" Howard, 95 of Cameron and formerly of Grapeland, will be 4:00 p.m. Friday April 4, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Norton officiating. The body will be cremated. Mrs. Howard died Sunday, March 30, 2008 in a Cameron Nursing Center.
    Pantha Howard, a homemaker, was the daughter of the late Alfonzo and Carrie Edwards of Columbus, North Carolina. She was born May 10, 1912. She and her husband Joe Howard lived in Kingsville for 40 years before moving to Cameron in 1994. She was active in the United Methodist Church, having won the UMW award. She was also active in PTO, Campfire Girls and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a veteran of World War II working in the Navy as a telegraph operator. Her husband of 50 years preceded her in death in 1997. 11 siblings also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Daughter, Joretta Zajicek & husband Mike of Cameron; Grandsons, Zach Zajicek & wife Rosa of Irving; Nick Zajicek of Cameron;
Hubnik, Milton
    Milton Hubnik, 67, of Cameron died Monday, January 21, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. Walter Matus officiating. Burial will follow in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mr. Hubnik was born May 4, 1940 in Cameron to John Jerry and Mary Antonia (Gelner) Hubnik. He was a 1959 graduate of C.H. Yoe High School. He served in the U. S. Army National Guard. Mr. Hubnik married Evelyn Vrazel in Marak on May 22, 1965. A farmer and rancher, Mr. Hubnik had worked for T.U. and for Milam County Pct. #1. He was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church where he served on the Pastoral Council, the cemetery board and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10186 and a member of K.J.T. where he served as treasurer of local #39. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Hubnik.

Jedlicka, Emilie
    Emilie Jedlicka, 95, of Cameron died Sunday, May 25 in a Cameron nursing center. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Monica's Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Entombment will follow in the St. Monica's Mausoleum. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Jedlicka, a homemaker, was born December 20, 1912 in Cameron to Karel and Antonie (Pavelka) Gelner. She married John A. Jedlicka and together they farmed a 110 acre farm west of Cameron. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church. Her grandson, Scott Jedlicka; brother John Gelner and sister Angelina Simecek also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Sons, Joseph Jedlicka of Roseburg, Oregon, Paul Jedlicka & wife Patricia of Bryan and John Jedlicka & wife Laura of Rockport; Daughter, Emily Skrhak & husband Sam of McGregor; Sister, Mary Hubnik of Cameron; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, also survive.

    Ruby Elois Jungmann, 72, of Rogers died Thursday, May 1, 2008 in a Clifton nursing home. Private family funeral services were held Monday May 5, at Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts. Burial was in Hope Lutheran Memorial Park.
    Mrs. Jungmann, a homemaker, was born April 10, 1936 in Rogers to Leslie and Lessie (Riddle) Hill. She was a graduate of Roger High School. She married Leland Jungmann. Mrs. Jungmann worked for over 20 years at Rogers ISD as a Kindergarten aid and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
    Survivors include: Her husband, Leland Jungmann of Rogers; Daughter, Cheryl Bell of Rosebud; Sons, Leland Jungmann, Jr. of Georgetown and Ronald Jungmann of Rogers; Sisters, Joyce Mertz of Rogers and Pat Sebek of Temple; 7 grandchildren, also survive.

    Helen Kirk, 77, of Harker Heights and formerly of Cameron died Saturday at her home. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Liberty Cemetery near Cameron with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating. Family visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Kirk, a homemaker, was born July 23, 1930 in Milam County to William and Pauline (Young) Halpain. She married Gobel Denson Kirk and he preceded her in death in 1982.

Korsmo, Sherri
    Sherri Korsmo, 47, of Cameron died Monday February 11 near Giddings as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Her body will then be shipped to Missouri for additional services and burial.
    Ms. Korsmo was born July 19, 1960 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to William B. and Belva (Howard) Pennington. She was employed as a dragline operator for Luminant Mining's Three Oaks Lignite Mine in Lee County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron. Survivors include: Her son, Rafn Hauk Korsmo of Cameron; Parents, William & Belva Pennington of Taneyville, MO; Brother, Wesley Pennington of Taneyville, MO; and Sister, LaDonna Stuart of Taneyville, MO.
Kovar, Milus "Felix"
    Milus "Felix" Kovar, 91, of Cameron died Thursday, January 24, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
    Felix was born April 14, 1916 in Milam County to Joseph and Agnes (Lazek) Kovar. Felix spent many years living the life on the Rodeo circuit. He love roping and traveling the U.S. training hunting dogs and bird hunting. He served 5 years in the U. S. Army, stationed in Guam where he received a bronze star. Returning to Cameron, he went into the trucking business. He was member of the V.F.W. Post 2010 in Cameron.

Laferre, Laurence "Jack"
    Laurence "Jack" Laffere, 86 of Cameron died Thursday, February 21, 2008 in a Cameron nursing center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Elizabeth Hanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben Arnold Cemetery near Ben Arnold. Family visitation will be held Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Laffere was born September 19, 1921 to George and Gertrude (Thaler) Laffere near Buckholts. He graduated from Sharp High School in 1939. He married Dorothy Reddehase on January 11, 1942. After having farmed for several years he was employed by Alcoa Aluminum in Rockdale, from which he retired in 1986. Afterward he worked for Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home for 19 years. He was a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. He was a master mason of the San Andres Masonic Lodge #170. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: His wife, Dorothy Laffere of Cameron; Daughter, Lanette Peters of McKinney; Son, Laurence Laffere, II & wife Alice of San Antonio; 2 granddaughters, Paige Peters Self of Lucas and Tanya Peters Showalter of Allen; 6 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren, also survive.
Laywell, Cecil Denson
    Cecil Denson Laywell, 83, of Cameron died Friday, June 8, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Coleman and Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Burial will follow in the Walkers Creek Cemetery near Cameron. Family visitation will be held Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Cecil was born December 30, 1924 in the Splawn community of Milam County to Henry J. and Bertha (Angell) Laywell. He graduated from Cameron Yoe High School and was inducted into the Army following graduation. He served in Normandy and Germany.
    Upon returning, he attended the D.P.S. Academy and graduated with the 12th class in 1948. He was stationed as a patrolman in Ft. Worth and the Katy area. He also spent several years as an investigator for the Village Police Dept. in Spring Branch. Cecil retired as drillings superintendent from Layne Western Co. in Houston after 26 years. He also served one term as Milam County Pct. #2 commissioner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron.
    He married Elaine Werner on October 17, 1953 and they made their home in Katy until 1980 when they moved to the Walkers Creek Community of Milam County. Two brothers, Raymond Laywell and Ralph Laywell preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: Wife, Elaine Laywell of Cameron; Son, Hank Laywell and wife Kim of Hillsboro; Brothers, Ed Laywell of Cameron and Cliff Laywell of Bryan; and Granddaughter, Landry, of Hillsboro.
Llanas, Guillermo
    Guillermo Llanas, 68, of Cameron died Wednesday May 14 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Monica's Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Mr. Llanas, a rancher and farmer, was born June 25, 1939 in Mexico to Pascual and Estefana Santellana Llanas. He married Basilia Torres. He was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church.

    Mrs. Mamaliga, a homemaker, was born August 25, 1924 in Chicago. She married Emil Mamaliga and he preceded her in death in 1984. Her son Paul Mamaliga also preceded her in death in 1992. She was a member of the History Club in Cameron. She was a Pink Lady and involved with the Exercise Group of the Gold Medallion at St. Joseph's hospital and she had been a member of the Women's Social Club at Texas A. & M.

She married Dwight Moody April 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2000. She was the music director for Edith Hubert's private kindergarten for many years and taught in Cameron schools for over 20 years . She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. A brother and a sister also preceded her in death.

Steel in the Solutions department for over 35 years and had served as deputy sheriff in Crown Point, Indiana for 18 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #9743, American Legion #133 and had served on the volunteer fire department in Indiana. A sister, Lupe Acosta preceded him in death.

She married David Perkins on May 14, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

    Curtis Doyle Phipps, Jr. of Austin and formerly of Cameron,died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin and graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Little River Cemetery near Cameron.
    Mr. Phipps was born December 12, 1946 in Cameron to Curtis D. and Leona Phipps. Known by family and friends as "Pee Wee" he was employed by IBM for 25 years. He was a member of the Soloman Masonic Lodge #484 of Taylor and the Ben Hur Shrine of Austin.

    Mr. Prokisch was born in Sharp, Texas on June 20, 1921 to Max and Sophia (Denker) Prokisch. He married Lucille Dorner on May 12, 1945 in the Vogelsang Community Church near Ben Arnold. He attended Modern Barber College in Houston and was a barber in Cameron for over 45 years. After his retirement he began cutting hair at the V. A. hospital in Temple. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron where he served as elder for more than 40 years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of W.W.II, the Edwin Hardy Post #9 American Legion and the V.F.W. Post 2010. Two brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death.

    Gregorio Sanchez, Sr. 72, of Rogers died Sunday, February 3, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Nat Villanueva officiating. Burial will follow in the Rogers Cemetery in Rogers. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
    Mr. Sanchez, a retired foreman for General Portland Cement Co. in Houston, was born February 20, 1935 in Caldwell to Baldazar and Lorenza (Cruz) Sanchez. He married Maria Ruiz January 19, 1966 in Houston.

Shaw, Ossie
    Ossie Shaw, 85, of Cameron died Thursday April 10, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Private family burial in Liberty Cemetery will be at a later time. Family visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Shaw, a retired mechanic, was born August 30, 1922 in Milam County to Ossie and Lula (McNiel) Shaw. He married Mary York and she preceded him in death in 2007. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. His son, Ricky Dale Shaw and 7 siblings also preceded him in death.

Shesler, Dorothy Ann
    Dorothy Ann Shesler, 97, of Cameron died Sunday, May 25, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Gause Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
    Mrs. Shesler, a homemaker was born March 1, 1911 in Glendale, Wisconsin to Henry and Victoria (Crowler) Champlan. She married Tom S hesler and he preceded her in death. Three sons, Lyle Shesler, Allen Long, Dale Shesler and one daughter Delores Shafer also preceded her in death. Three brothers and 1 sister also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: 4 sons, Wayne Shesler and Curtis Shesler, both of Cameron, Alvin Long of Gause, and Victor Shesler of Grand Prairie; 1 daughter, Vita Johnson of Cross Plains; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren, also survive.
Stark, Wilma Jo Gunter
    Wilma Jo Gunter Stark, 83, of Temple and formerly of Buckholts, died Monday, March 03, 2008 in Scott & White Hospital. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron with Rev. Mike Rinehart and Rev. Chris Mesa officiating. Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mrs. Stark was born June 12, 1924 in Grosebeck to Lewis and Grace (Dillon) Gunter. She married Floyd W. Stark on March 22, 1945 in Kosse after which they moved to Buckholts where they lived until 1981 when they moved to Temple.
    Mrs. Stark had been employed by the Buckholts State Bank for over 20 years, by Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Cameron and by Scott & White Hospital in the insurance department for over 12 years. She was Woman of the Year Tanglefoot Chapter of the American Business Women's Association in 1987, a member of the Children's Miracle Network Hope for the Children, a member of the The Humane Society, The National Rural Letter Carrier's Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
    Mrs. Stark was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1981. Three sisters, Anna Lee Rasco, Elizabeth Louise (Betty) Connell and Laura Grace (Toppy) Clark also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Her Sister, Ruth Rinehart of Franklin; Numerous nieces and nephews; and by her beloved poodle, Sugar.
Susik, Frank Edward
    Frank Edward Susik, Sr., 92 of Fort Stockton died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica's Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mr. Susik, a retired oil rig operator, was born June 14, 1915 in Milam County to John and Aloise (Petrie) Susik. He married Mary Elizabeth Gunn on December 17, 1943 and she preceded him in death in 1977. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fort Stockton. His son, Frank Susik, Jr, daughters Mary Frances Matney and Sharon Susik, brothers Pete Susik and Johnny Susik and sister Matilda Horelica also preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: Sons, Jerome Joseph Susik of Longview and Robert Eugene Susik of Midland; Daughter, Helen Rose Roller of Fort Stockton; Brother, Martin Susik of Cameron; Sister, Mary Mitchell of Corpus Christi; 9 grandchildren and 11 great Grandchildren, also survive.
Swift, Charles
    Charles Swift, 77, of Burlington, died Tuesday, January 28, 2008 in an Amarillo hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Community Church in the Liberty community near Cameron, with Rev. Chad LaGrone officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
    Mr. Swift, a retired electrician, was born September 29, 1930 in Milam County, to J. B. and Sena Ida (Boggan) Swift. He married Beverly Ann Coon on April 8, 1965. He was a member of I.B.E.W. #479 in Beaumont and a member of the Mason Lodge. His daughter Janice Swift Gattis and a brother, Wayne Ola Swift preceded him in death.

    Mr. Tindall, a retired crane operator with Alcoa, was born October 7, 1924 in Milam County to Reggie Clayton and Clara (Ainsworth) Tindall. He was a U. S. Army veteran of W.W.II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. His wife Mary preceded him in death in 1985.

Tumlinson, Howard Peter (Pete)
    Howard Peter (Pete) Tumlinson, 87 of Cameron died Thursday June 5, 2008 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be Monday, June 9 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Sunday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.,br> Mr. Tumlinson was born June 7, 1920 in Glasgow, Montana to O. G. and Maude Weaver Tumlinson. Know as Pete to family and friends, he was in the Class of '42 at Texas A & M University. He served his country during World War II as a pilot for SHAEF, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces. His career as a commercial artist carried him to places all over the country including New York City, Chicago, Albuquerque, Ft. Worth, and Austin.
    He also worked for the Texas Department of Health as an artist/photo journalist. He is perhaps best known for his creation of Ol' Sarge, which became recognized as a symbol of Texas A & M. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron. A brother, Robert preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: Brothers, Jack Tumlinson & wife Tense of Cameron and Dick Tumlinson & wife Judy of Wichita, Ks; Sister-in-law, Jean Tumlinson of Cameron; and Numerous nieces and nephews, also survive.

    Louis Vargas, 47, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 in a Temple hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Monica's Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
    Louis was born August 12, 1960 in Cameron to Camilo and Julia (Rangel) Vargas. He was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church. A brother, Mario Vargas, preceded him in death.

    Alma Juanita Wall, 99, of Cameron and formerly of Buckholts, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mrs. Wall, a retired homemaker, was born November 21, 1908 in Llano County, Texas to Seth and Sarah (Marinda) Smith. She was married for over 65 years to Raymond Wall before his death in 2000. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buckholts. Two sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Daughters, Carolyn Tate of Cameron and Judy Jackson of Buckholts; Sister, Dena Myers of Llano; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren , also survive.
Wallace, Norma Anne
    Norma Wallace, 86, died peacefully in her home in Cameron Saturday, April 26, 2008. A private memorial service will be announced at a later date.
    Born in Racine, Wisconsin on May 13, 1921, she graduated from the St. Luke's School of nursing, and upon graduation, enlisted in the U.S. Army medical Corps. She served in the Pacific theatre during the Second World War as an Army nurse until the end of the war. It was during this period, when she met and married the late Judge W. C. Wallace, a prominent lawyer in Milam Count for 55 years. During the 62 years that she lived in Cameron, she served as President of the Cameron PTA, Chairman of the Milam County Cancer Society, President on the Cameron History Club and Director of the Milam County Center. She was also a leader in the building of the present Cameron Public Library.
    She is survived by her sons, Craig and Eugene, a granddaughter, Molly Cheatum, a grandson, William Andrew Wallace and two sisters, Alyce Clemmons and Adela Czuper.
Warren, Vickie
    Vickie Warren, 61, of Cameron died Friday, February 22, 2008 at her daughter's home in Temple. Her immediate family will hold a private remembrance in Cameron at a later date. Her body will be cremated and her ashes will be buried along side her father at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Somerville.
    Vickie was born October 10, 1946 in Graham to Victor and Helen (Jones) Bates. She was married to Arnold Warren for forty two years. She had worked as a checker for Keith's Minimax.
    Survivors include: Her husband, Arnold Warren of Cameron; her son, Michael Clark Warren of Cameron; and her daughter, Hope Koch of Temple.

    Elzie I. Warrick, Sr. of Cameron died Saturday, July 05, 2008 at a Cameron nursing facility. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Mr. Warrick, a rancher, was born December 4, 1917 in the Prairie Dell Community of Bell County to John and Olive (Cox) Warrick. He married Christine Langenegger on July 2, 1938. Nine siblings preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: His wife, Christine Warrick of Cameron; Sons, Sonny Warrick of Cameron and Aubrey Warrick of Cameron; Sister, Elvie Edward of Lampasas; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, also survive.
Wied, Agnes Marion
    Agnes Marion Wied, 90, of College Station and formerly of Cameron died Thursday, May 22 at the Med of College Station. Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Cameron where she was a member for over 60 years.
    Agnes was born in Cameron on November 28, 1917 to Joe and Sophie (Seibert) Hibner. She married E. L. Wied on October 28, 1942 and together owned and operated E. L. Wied Hardware for over 30 years. Mrs. Wied moved to Rockport, Texas in the 1980's and was an active member and volunteer of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and then to College Station in 1997. She resided at the Sheridan Nursing Home for the past 2 years.
    Survivors include daughters Jolene Regan and husband, Tim of Burlington, Ontario, Canada; Jane Rivers and husband Melvin of College Station; grandchildren Lea Wilson of St. Croix, V.I., Kitch Wilson of Calgary Alberta, Joseph Rivers of Austin and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Celia Hartnett of College Station.
Wilkerson, Pearl
    Pearl Wilkinson, 79, of Cameron died Monday, January 07, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron with Scott Pospicil officiating.
    Mrs. Wilkinson, a homemaker, was born September 4, 1928 in Falls County to Otto W. and Martha (Heugatter) Wied. She married James A. (Buck) Wilkinson August 9, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1997. A sister, Viola Wied, also preceded her in death.
    Survivors include: Sons, James A. (Buck) Wilkinson, III & wife Katie of Austin and Brian Wilkinson & wife Kim of Temple; Daughter, Becky Mueck & husband James of Cameron; Grandchildren, Meagan Wilkinson Mueck of Dallas and Keith Colby Wilkinson of College Station.

    Emma Lee (Dickie) Woodum, 89 of Cameron died Wednesday, May 28, at a Cameron Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev.     Mrs. Woodum, a lifelong resident of Cameron was born February 7, 1919 to Theodore and Drucilla (Griffin) Burnett. She married R. J. Woodum and he preceded her in death in 2006. She was a member of and a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron. She was a member of the Central Texas Hospital Auxiliary, the Cameron History Club, and a Cameron Library volunteer.

Yates, Johnny
    Johnny Yates, Jr. 60, of Maysfield, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Cameron with Rev. Chris Norton officiating. The body will be cremated.
    Mr. Yates, an operational superintendent for TXU in Rockdale, was born November 25, 1947 in Milam County to Johnny J and Mildred (Pevehouse) Yates. He was a graduate of Texas A & M. He married Jeanette Stone June 22, 1991. He was a member of the Maysfield United Methodist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He taught Ag Science for 9 years in Rogers. Mr. Yates was a member of the North American Devon Association, of which he was named breeder of the year in 2007. He had served on the Rockdale Fair Board for 12 years on which he had served as past president. He was a member of the Murray Grey Cattle Association. He was a member of the Maysfield Presbyterian Historical Association. He was treasurer of the Pebble Grove Cemetery Association.
    Survivors include: His wife, Jeanette Yates of Maysfield; Son, Corey Yates of Houston; Daughter, Heather Dalton & husband Clay of Cypress; Parents, Johnny J and Mildred Yates of Cameron; Brother, Bobby R.
